Tax disc holders conventionally are supplied as either a shield shape or circular. These two standard shapes of tax disc holders have evolved naturally over the years. However there are other shapes of tax disc holders available to the market. Tax disc holders can also be manufactured in a rectangular shape. There is also the option with this shape of adding a card pocket to the inside of the tax disc holder.
The main consideration with rectangular tax disc holders is to provide the user with a guide as to where to place the tax disc when inserted. This is achieved by screen printing in reverse a background colour , usually white, onto the clear self adhesive vinyl. This is screen printed with a reversed out clear circle in the centre which is slightly larger than the tax disc itself. It is important with this tax disc holder that the background colour does not encroach onto the tax disc as the whole of the tax disc must be visible as decreed by law. Rectangular tax disc holders tend to be smaller than their shield shape counterparts and as such are less obtrusive. It also follows therefore that these tax disc holders because they are smaller provide less space for screen printing logos and branding and are not manufactured with this primary purpose in mind.
