Tax disc holders have conventionally been manufactured in either shield shape or circular format. There are a number of primary reasons why tax disc holders have been produced in this manner. Firstly both shield shape tax disc holders and circular tax disc holders are symmetrical. On the face of it the reason for this is not obvious , however when tax disc holders are screen printed this becomes more apparent. Shield shape tax disc holders have a rectangular top section . Quite often the image printed on the top section of the shield shape tax disc holder is repeated on both sides of it. Due to the symmetry of the shield shape tax disc holder the same stencils can be used for printing both sides of it thus reducing the cost of the tax disc holders. If the top section of the tax disc holders was an irregular shape then a new set of stencils would have to made to print each side which obviously has cost implications. Also if a customer requires a business card pocket on the tax disc holders an non symmetrical shape would prohibit the addition of a pocket. Of course shaped tax disc holders are an option but this would require new bespoke tooling which would only add to the overall unit cost.
